Why Need Air Purifier?

Without putting a stop to the worsening volume of air pollutants, the very survival of all life forms is threatened. Even if they can survive, condition will be most harsh. Protection of our living environment becomes critical and should not be delayed any further. From the “Clear the air for children – The impact of air pollution on children” by the UNICEF:

  • Their respiratory tracks are more permeable and thus more vulnerable. Their immune systems are weaker. Their brains are still developing.
  • Ultrafine, airborne pollutants — caused primarily by smoke and fumes — can more easily enter and irritate children’s lungs, causing and exacerbating life-threatening disease. Studies show these tiny particles can also cross the blood-brain barrier, which is less resistant in children, causing inflammation, damaging brain tissue, and permanently impairing cognitive development.
  • They even can cross the placental barrier, injuring the developing fetus when the mother is exposed to toxic pollutants.

Why are young children most vulnerable to the impact of air pollution?

Young children’s immune systems are still developing, and their lungs are still growing. With every breath, children take in more air per unit of body weight than adults. By extension, when air is toxic, they take in more toxic air per unit of body weight than adults. Moreover, the impacts have ripple effects into other critical aspects of children’s lives. For example, when children get sick, they might miss school, further limiting their learning and development potential.

What is the impact of air pollution on the developing brain?

First, particulate matter can cause neuro-inflammation by damaging the blood-brain barrier – a thin, delicate membrane that protects the brain from toxic substances Ultrafine pollution particles (particulate matter that is equal or less than 2.5 microns in diameter) pose an especially high risk because they can more easily enter the blood stream and travel through the body to the brain.

In older people, the breakdown of the blood-brain barrier has been strongly linked with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The dosage of toxic chemicals required to damage the growing brain in the first stages of life is much lower than that which would cause damage to an adult brain.

Magnetite is very common in urban outdoor air pollution, and a recent study found that it was considerably more present in brains of people living in areas where urban air pollution is high. Magnetite nanoparticles are highly toxic to the brain due to their magnetic charge and their ability to help create oxidative stress – which is often the cause of neurodegenerative diseases.
Several studies also show that polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), a specific class of pollutants formed from fossil fuel combustion and commonly found in areas of high automobile traffic, contribute to a loss of or damage to white matter in the brain. White matter contains nerve fibers that are critical in helping neurons communicate across different parts of the brain. As children grow and experience the world around them, well-functioning neural connections provide the foundation for continued learning and development. Air pollution and cognitive function Reinforcing the neurological evidence, studies have found associations directly between air pollution exposure and cognitive outcomes, including verbal and nonverbal IQ and memory, reduced test scores, grade-point averages among school children, as well as other neurological behavioral problems. Air pollutants inhaled during pregnancy can cross the placenta and affect the developing brain of a fetus, with potential lifelong effects. Research shows an association between prenatal exposure to high levels of air pollution and developmental delay at age three, as well as psychological and behavioral problems later in childhood, including symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, and depression. One study reports a four-point drop in IQ by the age of 5 among a sample of children exposed in utero to toxic air pollution.

While appreciating different filters which are specifically designed for removing particular types of pollutants in PPP air purifier, the AIRA technology, with the application of nano science and technology, enables the airflow between each interlace purification system to be optimized by rectification and adaptation, so that a powerful purification efficiency is achieved.

The PMmagnet Technology

Our filter materials had went through a special designed and formulated nano-process during it manufacturing, the filter materials therefore have a high affinity toward very fine and tiny particulate matter. Instead of employing the “sieving” mechanism to arrest the particulates matters, the particulates matters are being attracted to bind onto the surface of filter materials.

If the HEPA filter fibres are more permeable to air, it cannot arrest the fine dust particulate matters, as the fine dust/particulate matters will leak through the interstellar

Traditional HEPA filtration mechanism, the “sieve” or “sieving” mechanism

To enhance the ability to arrest the fine dust particulates matters, traditional HEPA filter will increase the density of the fibres material and/or employing thicker fibres materials. The fine dust / particulate matters are therefore caught by the “sieving” mechanism.

Particulate Matter

Particulate Matter (PM), it is a mixture of solid particles and liquid droplets found in the air, including dust, dirt, soot, or smoke and other finer particles, such as:

PM10 : inhalable particles, with diameters that are generally 10 micrometers and smaller; and

PM2.5 : fine inhalable particles, with diameters that are generally 2.5 micrometers and smaller.

Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs)

TVOCs are organic (carbon-containing) chemicals that are present mostly as gases at room temperature.

Some VOCs are odorous and some are suspected causes of adverse health effects.

The suspected health effects cover a broad range including, but not limited to, sensory irritation symptoms, allergies and asthma, neurological and liver toxicity, and cancer. While multiple VOCs present together may have effects greater than the sum of their individual effects.

Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde belong to one class of the VOCs, it is widely used in the manufacture of building materials and numerous household products.

It has significant health effects and verified to causes the respiratory symptoms, and nasal cancer by the USEPA and WHO, even at very low levels.

Bacteria, Virus and fungi

Many viruses that infect the respiratory tract spread from person to person, especially in crowded rooms with inadequate ventilation. Coughing, laughing, and sneezing can discharge tens of thousands of virus filled droplets into the air and may readily spread illnesses in schools, offices, homes, or other settings.

In contrast to viruses, bacteria and fungi will grow, often to an alarming extent, on building materials if moisture is available. Levels of airborne bacteria and fungi change frequently as a result of operation of mechanical air handling systems. Endotoxin, a component of some bacteria, also can cause illnesses among building occupants who inhale this contaminant.

Building conditions that allow excessive growth of bacteria or fungi can lead to occupants developing various specific medical symptoms or other complaints.

For example, the 1976 outbreak of a serious respiratory disease among attendees at a Legionnaire convention in Philadelphia was found to associate with a bacterial contaminated ventilation system in the hotel where they had gathered.  Further, multiple research indicated that mould & fungi at homes is associated with increases in several adverse health effects including upper respiratory symptoms, cough, wheeze, difficulty breathing, asthma exacerbation, development of new asthma, bronchitis, allergic rhinitis (allergy-caused inflammation of the nasal passages with runny nose or congestion), and eczema.

Allergen and Dust Mites

Dust mites are microscopic arthropods (a family of related animals) that live indoors and feed on skin flakes and other organic materials in dust. Bedding, upholstered furniture, and carpets are among the sites where dust mites live. Dust mites do not drink water; they absorb water from the surrounding air. If the relative humidity of the air is maintained higher than 50%, mites will survive.

The allergens, present primarily within the mite’s faecal pellets or their fragments can be inhaled when airborne.

Common dust mite allergy symptoms include:  Sneezing, Runny nose, Itchy, red or watery eyes, Stuffy nose, itchy nose, mouth or throat, postnasal drip (a flow of mucus from behind the nose into the throat) and cough.

Further dust mite allergy may also triggers asthma that leads to difficulty breathing, chest tightness or pain, whistling or wheezing sound when breathing out trouble sleeping caused by shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing.

Activated Carbon – Activated carbon, if appropriate grade is used, it is an environmental friendly material for removing TVOC, formaldehyde and/or gases pollutants. It has been used to remove toxic gases in some acute conditions.

Nevertheless, some grade of activated carbon are sensitive to moisture, using an inappropriate grade of activated carbon in air purification will not helpful to reduce gases pollutants.

UV light – UV might be helpful to reduce airborne bacteria level, however, subjected to a substantial period (depends on wavelength and intensity, varies from around 60 second to 60 minutes) of irradiation time. Exposure to UV light can lead to health problems on skin, eye and immune system

Ionizer- Negative ions generated can be used to charge up the nearby airborne particulates. The charged airborne particulates precipitate together. Ionizer can helps to remove big size particulate, but they will of little help if to reduce the level of the small size particulate such as PM10 and/or PM2.5 when ionizer is being used along.

Ozone – Only high level ozone is effective in killing bacteria and suppressing VOCs level. Nevertheless, it is extremely dangerous to human health. Low level ozone is ineffective in air purification.

Nano-Confined Type Catalytic Oxidation – Some technology employing ionizer and/or ozone together with zeolite claiming to carry out an nano-confined type catalytic oxidation reaction should be of high cautions for the reason that
ozone will not be fully absorbed by zeolite and released to the environment,
many intermediates will be resulted from incomplete oxidation reaction, where the intermediates even more harmful than the original gases pollutants for they are “reactive”, “no measurable”, and
unknown hazardous health effect caused by the released intermediates

HEPA filtration – The working mechanism of HEPA is by filtration of pollutants with diameter up to 0.3µm by a mat of randomly arranged fibres. HEPA filter is effective to filter the PM2.5 or finer dust particulates matters. Traditional HEPA filter particulate by “sieving” the particulates matter when the airflow contains them is passing through the HEPA filter materials, low-airflow maybe resulted if less permeable filter materials is used.

Air Pollutants are existing everywhere especially in the city areas, thus, air purifier is essential to all. Children ages under12, pregnancy woman, elderly, and those who suffering Asthma and/or respiratory disease especially need the air purifier.
Pollutants such as Formaldehyde, PM2.5 are harmful substances. To avoid breath in, an effective air purifier, which can remove the harmful substances at shortest time will be preferred. Only high rank Clear Air Delivery Rate (CADR) air purifier able to purify and deliver clean air at short time. Thus, users are always recommended to select a high CADR air purifier, if their room space is affordable.
Medical grade air purifier is proven to effective to kill and remove the airborne bacteria and virus. It is being tested by national recognized and accredited laboratory and the testing results are endorsed by the government with valid registration number.

The Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) rating can tells the performances of an air purifier. The higher the rating, the higher performance it will be. The CADR shall not be mixed up with the airflow rate. A fan can have a high airflow rate but none clear air be delivered. 


Filter-life can be measured by CCM. If the filter has higher CCM, it has a longer life time.

PM2.5 CCM is divided in to level P1 to P4. The higher the level, the higher the CCM it has. Moreover, formaldehyde CCM is divided into level F1 to F4. PPP utilized both P4 and F4 levels filter which are the highest standard with relatively longer life time (9 months to one year)

The CADR ratings were developed by Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) and are measured according to a procedure specified by ANSI/AHAM AC-1. The ratings are recognized by retailers, manufacturers, standards organizations, and government bodies such as the EPA[1] and the Federal Trade Commission.

The CADR rating developed by the China government follows the testing standard APIAC/LM 01-2015 ( for PM2.5) and GB/T 18801-2015 (for PM10)

CADR measured according to the above procedure are the most representative. There are some products in the marketing claiming that they have very high CADR. The measuring procedure may not comply the standard so consumers should be careful when choosing air purifier.
